Aren’t All Supplements and Vitamins the same?

No, designed clinical nutrition is not ‘over-the-counter’ vitamins and supplements.  Over-the-counter vitamins are pharmaceutically engineered chemicals that are made to look like a vitamin structure which is made in a lab. They are not whole food and the body does not actually recognize them as anything natural that is good for you. Synthetic vitamins are very questionable when it comes to an overall benefit to health. Because they are not made from whole foods, over-the-counter vitamins lack the essential elements normally present in whole or live foods.

An example of a whole food could be carrots.  Carrots are high in Vitamin A Complex.  A complex is something made up of many different parts that work together.  Synthetic vitamin A does not contain the whole Vitamin A Complex found in nature.  They synthesize the one component, beta-carotene and call that Vitamin A. The same is true with ascorbic acid which is only one small component of Vitamin C. If one were actually lacking in any of the components of Vitamin A Complex, one would be wise to seek out a supplement that was made from whole foods that were rich in this complex such as carrots and not from chemicals re-engineered in a laboratory to look like a fragment of the Vitamin A complex that has mistakenly been labeled as Vitamin A.

Designed Clinical Nutrition, What Exactly Is This?

Designed clinical nutrition means a specific nutrition program designed specifically for you based on your body’s needs for nutrients. If we have 10 different patients come in with migraine headaches, each one may test differently, and each one may have different underlying causes that are contributing to their particular headaches. We do not use a one pill fix all, or one program fix all because in this day and age the majority of people do not respond to cookie cutter programs. Clinical means that there are thousands of holistic doctors doing these nutrition programs affecting or helping thousands of people nationwide, so we know this works well because people are getting better. Nutrition means the body needs real food, designed by nature, to enable the body to nourish and repair itself and grow healthfully. Nutrients are the building blocks to our nervous system, digestive system, cardiovascular system, muscular system, brain health and much more. A nutrient deficient body can only last so long before it breaks down system after system contributing to more and more sickness.

It is whole foods in a tablet, capsule or powder that are concentrated in a vacuum, cold-process system that preserves all of the active enzymes and vital components that make it work as mother nature intended. These real food supplements have been designed to match the needs of the body, as determined by the comprehensive nutrition evaluation. These are nutrients you are simply not getting, or not assimilating, in your current diet. These deficiencies may be due to your past personal eating habits but it is for sure due, in some large extent, to the lack of quality nutrients in the foods commercially available in grocery stores or restaurants today.

What about Natural Vitamins?

Vitamins that are being used all over today generally only need to have a small percentage of their actual content derived from natural sources to be labeled natural. If you look at most vitamin bottles today, the ingredients are mostly synthetic. The fact is if your vitamins are not derived from whole foods they often make you even more deficient and nutritionally imbalanced. They can create other health problems because they do not contain all of the co-factors found in nature that make the vitamins work. Wow, imagine that, paying for and taking a vitamin that actually deteriorates your health, instead of improving it, this is what you get with synthetic vitamins so be careful.

Scientific studies done with synthetic vitamins repeatedly prove that vitamins don’t do much good for anyone! That is completely true when you are talking about these pharmaceutically produced chemical compounds. With whole food, live source vitamins or supplements it is a completely different story. While the most common vitamin you see in stores is Centrum, this is probably one of the most synthetic, mega dosed vitamins on the market today, it makes sense that a drug company makes it.

How Are These Whole Food Supplements Produced?

One example of a designed clinical nutrition supplement that we use is called Catalyn.  This product is produced by starting with a wide variety of carefully chosen organically grown vegetables, taking the water and fiber out using a vacuum, low heat process – without heating the vegetables, and then utilizing the concentrated food to make a bottle of Standard Process brand Catalyn.

The key to this whole procedure is the way it is done, using the Standard Process method. Standard Process’ nutrients are derived from plants grown on their own farms, in soil free of pesticides in which no chemicals are ever used. The PhDs test the soil before the seeds are sown, to make sure of the fertility of the soil, even the weeding is done by hand. The machinery involved in the processing of these products is made of glass and stainless steel only to make sure there are no metal residues. The temperature used in processing harvested plants is never raised above the point of 90 degrees Fahrenheit, so that the active ingredients are not cooked; they remain active and alive. They have a very long shelf life without preservatives of any kind. Vitamins that are active and alive can easily be recognized and used by the body to optimize function and energy production.

Is It Possible To Reverse Or Totally Get Rid Of My Health Issues?

Many people we see in our practice have eaten themselves into their current state of ill-health, to one degree or another. The deficiencies or imbalances lead to a breakdown in resistance, or immunity, and a loss of the ability to cope with environmental stresses. You hear of individuals all of the time who no longer have cancer or who no longer have to take insulin for diabetes or arthritis medication. The body is amazing if you give it what it needs, this is proven over and over again, people just need to practice this on a daily basis to see amazing improvements in their health.

The good news is that with the designed clinical nutrition it is possible to reverse the process, get your health back and get your life back. As holistic doctors, we cannot say we fix, cure or treat these chronic health conditions, but give the body what it needs and it will do all of the fixing itself. We have seen amazing results with patients coming in with thyroid disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, reflux, autoimmune conditions, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, diabetes and more.

Chiropractor FAQ’s

Is chiropractic effective?
Chiropractic helps to remove postural imbalances and structural misalignments that can accumulate in our bodies over time. Chiropractic works by restoring your own inborn ability to be healthy. For your body to remain healthy, your nervous system must function well. For your nervous system to function well it must be free of interference. By restoring spinal function with Chiropractic adjustments, nerve interference by misaligned vertebrae is removed, thus allowing optimal nervous system function and improved health.
Why should I see a Chiropractor?
Seeing a chiropractor is not only for back pain and neck pain. Chiropractic care is an excellent way to keep your body at its peak performance through nutrition, adjustment and overall wellness. In addition, chiropractic care has been known to help a wide range of conditions from fibromyalgia to diabetes.
How does chiropractic care work?

Chiropractic is an overall way of looking at the human body. It’s based on the idea that the body is self-sustaining and self-healing. The body is in essence completely controlled by the brain through its connection via the spinal cord and the vast networks of nerves that make up the body. When this system is not functioning at its peak, the overall performance of the human body is lacking.

In the chiropractic world, drugs and medicine are not utilized as a form of treating a patient. While supplementation and nutrition are almost always a part of the bigger picture, drugs and prescriptions can be viewed as band-aids to treat symptoms rather than going to the source and treating the real problem.

While it’s often perceived that the chiropractor is solely here to treat back and neck pain, this is simply a small piece of what the profession really is capable of handling. Chiropractors not only treat soft and hard tissue problems such as sciatica and joint pain but are largely called on to deal with more significant issues. Some of these issues include fibromyalgia, allergies, insomnia, headaches and much more.

What is a chiropractic adjustment? Is it safe?

Adjustments, or manipulation as they’re sometimes referred to is the minor movement of vertebrae in the spine. The objective of this movement is to realign vertebrae that have moved out of place for a number of reasons ranging from normal daily activity to trauma such as a car accident.

When these vertebrae are out of place, it has an overall systemic effect from muscular to the central nervous system. Without proper alignment and flow of all nerves and systems in the body from the brain, we can’t function at our peak.

An adjustment is often a pressure from the chiropractor utilizing the hands or an instrument to move vertebrae back into place. This happens with a quick movement and is often without discomfort. You may hear a noise that sounds like you’re cracking your knuckles referred to as joint cavitation. It is the release of gases such as oxygen and nitrogen from the joint.

What can I expect from my visit to a chiropractor?
Going to the Chiropractor is a new experience for many of us. Maybe we’ve heard through a friend or have done some research online. It’s possible that you are just fed up with living in pain and it’s time to do something about it. In either case, your first visit to the chiropractor will really be about getting to know the chiropractor and discussing your history, current condition and goals.
What results can I expect from treatment?
Chiropractic is based on the idea of removing imbalances both structural and postural in an effort to allow our body to heal itself. For this to happen the network of nerves and signals from your brain, down your spinal cord, to the network of nerves must be allowed to flow freely without any interruption. Chiropractors have the ability and skill to remove these interruptions or misalignments and allow the body to perform as it was meant to.

If you’ve ever been in a car accident, played a sport, fell down or just bumped into something too hard, it’s very possible that you are not functioning at your best due to a misalignment. While there are many potential mechanical or structural causes for misalignment, there are also chemical reasons. For instance, if you smoke or drink excessively or even just have a poor diet, the chemical issues in your body can eventually cause underlying conditions and disease to appear.

Allowing a chiropractor to get you back on track both chemically and structurally will bring your body back to the proper state it should be in to perform at its peak.
